Tails to Trails Adventures was founded with a mission to revolutionize the dog socialization experience. Unlike traditional dog walking groups and dog parks, we prioritize the safety and well-being of all dogs by implementing a non-contact approach to socialization. This means that during our walks, dogs are not allowed to physically interact with each other, creating a stress-free environment for both dogs and owners.
About Tails to Trails
Destany and Tyler, the owners of Wandering Wags, started Tails to Trails to support healthy dog socialization.
On-leash structured group dog walking is by far the best way for dogs to socialize and bond while working together as a team, rather than competing. Off-leash romping at the dog park can be fun, but only IF the dogs are behaving well. However, most dogs have not been taught how to socialize politely.
Group dog walks, or “pack walks,” are a great opportunity for both you and your pup to socialize. After all, if you’re going for a stroll, why not have some company? By joining our regular group to walk with, you’ll build a supportive community for both you and your dog.
Why structured group walking is best for your dog:
Whether you have a dog that is a social butterfly, but prefers calmer, on-leash socializing (like a senior dog) or a dog who needs exercise in a more controlled environment than a dog park (like a dog recovering from an injury), groups walks might be the perfect fit for you.
Science Behind Group Walks
Dogs have a strong instinctual need to socialize with and explore the world. As we know, many dogs are reactive to other dogs, but these dogs still have a need to get out and socialize. Pack walks satisfy this need. Dogs can safely socialize without physically interacting. Even though the dogs are not physically touching each other, they can smell and see the other dogs, which is still considered socialization.
Walking your dog is important for training, and it’s something most owners do not do enough. Fenced yards are great, but it’s not enough. Dogs need to explore and get out in the world. Even a short walk easily satisfies this need.
Walking provides the dog with a lot of mental stimulation, which most dogs are lacking. Furthermore, mental stimulation will tire out a dog a lot faster than physical stimulation (e.g., running in the back yard)
